Understanding Faith as a Journey
We see the Christian life as a journey. Journeys involve action, movement, stops and starts, detours and delays. Throughout the Scriptures, we read of a God who calls people to embark on transformative journeys with Him. We believe He is asking the same of us today. We long to be a church of individuals who are growing, moving, and being formed into mature disciples of Jesus (who make more disciples of Jesus!).
Based on the work of Pete Scazzero, Janet Hagberg, Holy Scripture, church tradition, and our experience, we’ve developed the ‘Pathway,’ which is how we talk about discipleship and the journey of faith around our church.
We recognize that all believers are at different stages of faith, each with different next steps to be taking in their walk with God. None of us “have arrived,” as it were, but we continue to spur each other on toward love, grace, justice, and sanctification by taking steps on the Journey together.
Whether you are just beginning a journey with Jesus or you’re 40 years into a relationship with God, we believe God wants to do more in your life. Our church offers different opportunities to take steps along the Pathway - wherever you might be - throughout the year.
What we don’t want to do is get stuck. Many believers end up stagnant at a certain stage of faith, never moving forward with the calling on our lives to become Christ to the world. Whether at the Wall or another stage, we join in honest and surrendered community with other believers who spur us on to keep moving and growing on our faith journey. For that reason, the path is best traveled with a caring community.
That’s why we’re here.
Stages of Faith
There are 6 major stages (or seasons) of faith on the Pathway. Each stage builds on the others before it. Click on a stage to learn more.
